JEE 2013 – Mechanism to divide 1.5 lakh students into all categories still not clear

The ministry for human resource development (MHRD) issued its first ever notification on JEE-2013 for admissions to all centrally-funded technical institutes on August 14. Not all 1.5 lakh students shortlisted for JEE Advanced, from Joint Entrance Exam (JEE)- Main exam will be from open category.

The official notification released by the ministry of human resource development (MHRD) said the 1.5 lakh students who will qualify for the Joint Entrance Exam (JEE)-Advanced test will include students from all categories, but IIT faculty members are still not clear about how they will divide 1.5 lakh into open category and reserved categories.
Usually, IITs follow 15% reservation for SC, 7 and a half% for ST and 27% for OBC candidates. “We are not sure if they will divide 1.5 lakh into open category and reserved categories, or they would have some other mechanism for the cut-offs,” said a faculty member of IIT-Bombay.
